A Bucket List For The Traveler To Las Vegas, NV

City of Las Vegas welcome sign

Theoretically, it should be impossible to fall in love with the city of Las Vegas. It’s in the middle of nowhere – the city (for all intents and purposes) sits on what used to be a barren and unproductive desert in Nevada. Add to that the fact that it used to be possible to sit and watch the explosion of atomic weapons on the Nevada Test Site, within easy reach of the casinos in the city and one would begin to wonder why anyone would visit. But that was in the 1950s and 1960s. Las Vegas is today not an irradiated wasteland – it is one of the most vibrant cities in North America.

Of course, what is still commonly known as the ‘City of Sin’ now offers much more than neon lights and casinos. (BTW – the ‘City of Sin’ has some of the most stringent regulations around involving yourself in bad behavior). There are a wealth of attractions in the city which make it perfect for a family vacation. Here are some attractions in the city (and its surroundings) that should be on every visitor’s bucket list.

Of course, the ‘Strip’ is always going to be one of the reasons to visit Vegas. That neon lights attract millions of visitors – and the reards of a simple walk can be enormous. The Bellagio Fountains, the Eiffel Tower and the Grand Canal of Venice are all available – albeit on a smaller scale. The famous ‘all you can eat’ buffets of Vegas may have lost their allure – but some hotels still offer a buffet dining experience that will make your culinary dreams come true. For those interested in this culinary smorbasbord the Buffet at the Winn Hotel still offers a great experience.

For those who want to venture outside the confines of the city itself there are numerous attractions – but among the most impressive must be the Hoover Dam. The dam is one of the most impressive man-made structures on the planet and has been supplying power to the surrounding area since 1935. Hundreds of workers lost their lives in the construction of this man-made marvel. Helicopter tours are a popular way to experience the grandeur of the dam and the surrounding area.

There are simply so many attractions for those who want to explore the wonders of Las Vegas. From walking tours to encounter the unique lora and fauna of this part of Nevada – to the joys of the strip it is a city that rewards exploration.
